Paris notre-dame heads. The splendour of the european gothic sculpture

In 1793, during the episodes of the French Revolution, part of the original sculptural decoration of Notre-Dame cathedral in Paris was systematically pulled out and destroyed. The Musée National du Moyen Âge in Paris, opened in 1844, preserves the most complete collection of Gothic sculptures and ornamental fragments of this cathedral. The exhibition pretends to be a small sample of the magnificent outside sculptural decoration of Notre-Dame. There are four outstanding sculptural heads very representative of the stylistic revolution carried out in Paris in the middle of the 13th century, which had a markedly humanist character and it was known with the name of "opus francigenum ".
